Stepping Back; Seeing God
March 2007
___________________________________________________
The older I get the more I understand that we are truly life long learners. It is a part of my life that I pray would never cease. God really has given us a gift in Himself! We all have so many expectations of how our lives will unfold. In keeping with that trend I started this journey to the mission field with so many ideas about how it would unfold. In my naive state as a human being I dared to assume I knew what this journey would look like. Ha! Was that ever arrogant!
God has taught me more than I could have imagined during this journey. That's just how He is though, isn't it? "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom." (Is. 40:28) How true and beautiful this fact about our God is.
Recently it has been a joy to step back and just look at the journey behind so I can look forward with confidence, peace and excitment to the journey ahead. As I have looked back these past few months I have seen the perfection of all that my Savior is. There have certainly been times during support raising where I have questioned why I have watched, sometimes jealously, friends leave for the field and I am still here. Why does financial support seemingly come so easy for some and not for others? We will never have all the answers this side of eternity, and to some degree it doesn't matter. The point is, there have been times where it seemed like God was doing miracles for others and not me. But that was so far from the truth! I can't tell you how many times God provided ahead of time for things that were to come. How God allowed for things to move slowly at times and used those times to teach me valuable lessons, which I will likely need a course in again in the future!
It is so important for us to look back at the Stones God has placed as pillars of testimony to His glory in our lives. I am constantly learning how often I do an injustice to God's work in and through me when I live like He hasn't shown me time and agian how great and awesome He is. What a blessing we have to have a God who loves us so much He chases after us. I can't wait for the day when sin is no longer in the picture and I can understand a little more how infinate His love and grace really is!
Pre-Field Training is Finally Here!
December 2006

Currently I am in Colorado for my Pre-field Training. This is a very exciting time seeing as this is one of the last steps in getting to the field!!!! I am at about 65% of my monthly support needs. I need 100% before I can leave for Italy. The next few months will be full of support meetings and gathering documents to apply for my visa.
Quick Trip To Italy:
October 2006

Recently I had the privilege to help my future team members, Kevin and Shellie Rees, move their five young children to Italy. This came as an added blessing to me as I was able to visit with team members, the Rees and Amy Williams, whom I hadn't meet yet. I was also able to spend time with my field leaders, the Carlsons, and church members at the church in Montefiascone. Beyond the time spent building relationships it was awesome to get a glimpse of what God is putting together in the Provence of Viterbo Italy, where I will be working. I can't express how excited I am to be joining this wonderful team of people in working together to build up the body of Christ in Italy!

Update On Financial Support And Next Steps
September 2006
______________________________________________________________
I am excited to announce that I am over 50% of my monthly financial needs! There is still much work to be done however. After much prayer and planning I have left my full-time job and will now concentrate on support raising full-time! This is a huge milestone that I am so very excited about. In addition to full-time support raising I will be babysitting and picking up odd jobs on the side to make ends meet.
I am planning on attending my pre-field training at the end of November. I need to be at 70% to go to the pre-field I am scheduled for. I am asking everyone to first pray that I will make it to 80% by the end of November. Second I would like everyone to pray about how you can help. Would you help through resources by hosting a dessert party? Can you help cut travel costs with frequent flyer miles? Please pray about some resources you may have available to you which could help. I would like you to also pray about financial support. As you pray about some active ways to participate in this ministry please take into account these words from Michael Carlson, my field leader:
"I have asked Amanda if I could write a letter to you to express my family's excitement that she will soon be joining us and our gratitude for your interest in her ministry. As Greater Europe Mission's Team Leader for the Province of Viterbo (Italy), I cannot tell you how very delighted I am that God is sending Amanda to put her shoulder to the wheel here. You cannot imagine the spiritual needs here. Whole provinces (about the equivalent of a county in the U.S.) are virtually devoid of any viable Gospel presence! Italian leaders and foreign missionaries are a scarce commodity. This country is crying out for help, and we praise God that He is responding by sending us Amanda who is so uniquely gifted and suited for making an impact here. I thoroughly believe that the most spiritually open group of people in Italy is her young people. Their parents are among the millions who are turning away from the Roman Catholic Church in Italy, leaving this generation without spiritual moorings and seeking hope in everything from Tarot card readers to New Age spirit-guides. They turn out in droves to learn English at our summer English camps and then weep as they share their stories of lost dreams and as they watch skits about Jesus' sacrifice for them. This is a lost generation, often neglected by the Italian protestant church, but searching for the hope that only people like Amanda can offer them. Amanda's love for the Lord and for young people, her experience on short term teams and her educational background with a pointed emphasis on Italy gives her a wealth of experience and passion that will be of vital impact for the Lord's work in Italy. Our Italian church and Italian mission family cannot wait for her to join us here! ...Italy needs her here just as soon as possible!"
